Gianni Morbidelli completed a sensational run at Vallelunga. The Italian
scored six wins, one pole position, two second and two third place
finishes in 2013 en-route to be crowned 2013 SUPERSTARS INTERNATIONAL
SERIES champion. Driving for Audi, he confirmed his winning status in
the V8-based competition. In addition to that, he is standing in second
place in the Italian Championship, just four points away from Vitantonio
Liuzzi (Mercedes). In less than two weeks, the two will fight their way
again for the national crown, as the series is lining up on the 26th
and 27th of October at Franciacorta.
As he's still celebrating his fifth SUPERSTARS title, Gianni Morbidelli
stopped by to share some thoughts over the outcome of the 2013 season's
decider.
"We were off to a difficult start. At Brno and Slovakia Ring we ended up
with two retirements and that enabled my rivals at Mercedes to score
lots of points and gain a considerable margin. Definitely it's been the
toughest moment for our team, but we kept each other motivated also
thanks to the car's potential. So we eventually scored several straight
wins and lined-up at Imola tied with Thomas Biagi at the top of the
standings. We had one of the most spectacular duels of the season there
and I managed to get the nod. Coming to the last round of the season
with a 33-point advantage played in my favour, and I had the chance to
administrate it with a third-place finish in Race 1. That eventually
handed me the championship with one race to go"
